Zeidler Partnership Architects has had an office in Beijing since 2002. It presently accommodates 60 people and continues to grow steadily in size and workload. All design work for major projects is directed from the Toronto headquarters office and this work is closely coordinated with Beijing via several partners and senior staff from Toronto who travel frequently to China to work together with the permanent China staff there on specific projects. Many of the Toronto partners have spent considerable time in the Chinese offices during the past four years working on a variety of projects. Tarek El-Khatib, one of our three senior partners is the primary contact with the China offices. Ping Zhang, Partner, is in charge of the Beijing office and directs the activities of all 3 China offices. Vincent Liu is in charge of the Shanghai office and Tantan Li is in charge of the Chengdu office.
Beijing projects include city and master planning, building design, interior design, landscape design and the building types include large, mixed-use complexes, public recreational buildings, exhibition centers, healthcare facilities, residential, offices, hotels, commercial buildings and resorts. The office has been invited to participate in many international design competitions in China reflecting the firm's international experience and design excellence. Recently, the Beijing office with a Toronto design team has won another international competition for a mixed-use complex including a group of super high-rise office and residential towers and a commercial shopping center. Recent built projects include the Exiuhu International Resort near Emeishan, Qingchengshan Shagouhe Residential Project, HYT Office Tower, Dalian Coastal International Center, a mix of hotel, office, commercial and serviced apartments, Shenyang Exhibition Center, Chongqing West International Convention and Exhibition Center, Chengdu Grandhill Theater, Fengsheng Science Park, Hangzhou Lin'an Kechuang Base City Complex Project, Jiangsu Software Park Creative Office Center, Shenshiyipin and the Beijing Zhongtang Condominium, etc.
