Principal, AIBC

Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
Twenty-five years ago, Zeidler Partnership Architects established their presence and commitment to architectural excellence in British Columbia through the design and development of Canada Place, an internationally renowned symbol of the city and a backdrop to the recent Olympic Games, along with the Ontario Pavilion for Expo 86. Some 20 years ago, our BC operations expanded to Victoria with the renovation and restoration of the Empress Hotel, and since then, our firm has continued to work in the city and across the province, bringing a new standard of architectural excellence to projects such as Pacific Centre, the Royal Jubilee Hospital Inpatient Tower, the rehabilitation plan and seismic upgrade for the BC Parliamentary Buildings, the master plan and build out of Bear Mountain Resort, The Rise Winery Resort in the Okanogan Valley, and the BC Visitors Information Centre at Golden.

Leadership
Principal, Martin Veenhoven, and associate Miroslaw Paprotny lead the architecture practice from our base in Victoria. Working in conjunction with Tarek El-Khatib and Vaidila Banelis, senior partners of the firm, and our other Canadian offices, our Victoria office brings together world-class design with local expertise. Our local team provides regional knowledge and presence, as well as an appreciation for the economy, vernacular architecture, local geography and climatic regions of the Island.

Urban Design Studio
The western Urban Design Studio is a multi-disciplinary group, representing a synthesis of urban planning, master planning, urban design and sustainability. As an emerging area of practice, this Studio assists our clients in the development of large parcels of land using principles of sustainable development. Our work combines commitments to transit-oriented development, (including higher densities of mixed-use buildings), safeguarding of green space and its biological diversity, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, more efficient consumption of renewable energy, waste recycling, food safety and protection of water resources.

Sustainability
We believe that "green" architecture can also be great architecture. City building does not need to impact the environment negatively. We aim to help significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions of new and renovated Canadian buildings. Our Victoria office maintains a commitment to sustainable design, in both architecture and landscape design, with LEED Accredited Professionals assigned to every team. Together, we will consider how all elements of the building's design work together to reduce harmful impact on the environment.
